Youth & Family/Friends Sprint Relay
By popular demand, we’ve created a new sprint relay category just for youths ages 13-16, as well as a non-competitive “Family & Friends” relay that gives parents a chance to participate with their younger teen(s) or family/friends to tag-team our short course in a fun, non-competitive format.
Either way, your team of two or three participants (see “details” below) will tackle the same Sprint Course as individual athletes: a 750m swim through the glacier-fed waters of Comox Lake, a 12k mountain bike through Cumberland’s legendary trail network and a climby 5k trail run through the forests and hills overlooking Dodge City itself.

Sprint Relay Course Stats:
- Dynamic Spine, Sport & Wellness Swim Course: 750 metres
- Dodge City Cycles Bike Course: approx. 12k
- Thomas Dargie Run Course: 5k
- BodyNetix Transition Areas: 2
Sprint Relay Details
Youth Sprint Relay participants must be between the ages of 13-16 years old (based on their age as of December 31).
Family & Friends Sprint Relay participants must be at least 13 years old (based on their age as of December 31) but are not otherwise limited by age. This race is timed so you can track your results, but it’s not competitive and awards are not given to top finishers (although you’ll still receive a coveted DCX finisher medal!)
Considering a team of two? Participants must be 16 or older by December 31 to participate in more than one leg of the relay.
Important:
Please note that, although these two divisions are geared toward youths and casual athletes, swimmers and mountain bikers should not be completely inexperienced. The entirety of the 750-metre swim is in deep water, and the mountain bike course features challenging, technical terrain that is super fun but not ideal for absolute beginners. (The run is challenging too, but is generally less consequential).
Our goal is to deliver a safe, fun and overwhelmingly positive experience for all. If you have any questions or would like to discuss suitability, please feel free to contact the race director.
